AVATAR takes us to a spectacular world beyond imagination, where a reluctant hero embarks on an epic adventure, ultimately fighting to save the alien world he has learned to call home. James Cameron, the Oscar-winning director of “Titanic,” first conceived the film 15 years ago, when the means to realize his vision did not exist yet. Now, after four years of production, AVATAR, a live action film with a new generation of special effects, delivers a fully immersive cinematic experience of a new kind, where the revolutionary technology invented to make the film disappears into the emotion of the characters and the sweep of the story.

This truly was a visually spectacular movie. I was pleased that the world creation was unique in its implementation with interesting and believable life forms and new concepts. I saw it in 3-D, which, for the price, really wasn't worth it as it didn't add much; that's actually a testament to the fact that the movie didn't NEED the 3-D gimmick. That said, I was rather surprised at how dull and lifeless the first 20 or 30 minutes was. It was throwaway material. Feel free to eat your pre-movie meal leisurely and come in late. The storyline was predictable and, perhaps, the characters could have been developed more, but there were a number of nice in the way various aspects were handled. The battle scenes reminded me very much of the last two Star Wars movies. I was annoyed and offended by the useless profanity and cursing God. If Star Wars made it along fine without that, why did Mr. Cameron include it? Grow up, Sir. It doesn't add realism. You're dealing with blue humanoids with tails, for crying out loud! It would be great to watch the last hour with the sound off. Personally, I won't be going back to see it or buying the movie. |

I thought the movie looked stunning. Visually speaking it's truly a movie that moves the medium forward. I can't wait to see more movies that look like this. That being said, and with the caveat that if I had/have the chance i'll be seeing it again and third time, the story and character development are simply horrible. It's about as obvious as movies come and there were several moments that I was pulled right out of movie due to dialog or "actor moments". The visuals kept pulling me right back into the movie and that's a testament to how gorgeous the movie was to behold. Go see it, see it a couple of times, but just don't expect to oscar quality acting or story. |

Phenomenal flick. It's pure entertainment. There are no real earth shaking messages here, although there is an underlying political and ecological "wake up call" that won't surprise anyone. Yes, the plot is somewhat predictable in so far as what I thought was going to happen was exactly what happened. Did that detract from the experience? Absolutely NOT! Would I see it again? Without a doubt. It's fast paced, fun, beautiful to watch--visually stunning, the characters and effects are exceptional. This is a spectacular film that is well worth the time and price of admission. |

I thoroughly enjoyed this film. I love the characters, the story and the world that is Pandora. It’s the type of film that you are glad that it’s almost three hours long, any less and it would lessen the experience. I’m going to most definitely go see it again and I recommend it to anyone who would like a great afternoon at the movies! |

Very entertaining film, the film is long but has great pacing. The 3D effects are more subtle than over the top. Cameron doesn't resort to the cheap 3D tricks like objects jumping out at you. The 3D version gives you greater depth, which creates a more realistic world. The facial movements and expressions of the Avatar characters is the greatest advancement of the film. On the negative side the story line borrows liberally from Last Samurai and Bury my Heart at Wounded Knee. The score from James Horner is very good although as he has in the past copies previous themes from his; most notably Titanic and A Beautiful Mind. Overall a film well worth viewing, particularly fans of Sci-Fi. |
